It depends on what you liked about Fabulous. For simple habit streaks, try Streaks or Habitica; for a gentle self-care pet, Finch; for timed routines, Routinery; for meditation, Headspace; for a short daily dose of stories, audio and small challenges, Mindscape. If you love guided routine coaching, Fabulous may still be the best fit.
Fabulous is one of the best-known routine apps. It started as a habit tracker and now includes guided coaching series, routines, journaling, short workouts, affirmations and meditation. That’s a lot, and it’s exactly why some people go looking for something else: simpler, cheaper, more playful, or more focused on one thing.
Below are six alternatives, including our own app, Mindscape. We’ve tried to be fair: each one is good at something different, and for some people Fabulous is still the right answer.

Why people look for a Fabulous alternative
The most common reasons we see:
- It’s too much. Fabulous does many things. If you only wanted a habit checklist, the coaching and journeys can feel heavy.
- Price. It has several plans and offers, and some people want something free or one-off.
- They want something different: more playful, more about the mind than routines, or more focused on meditation.
Knowing which one is yours makes the choice easy.
Streaks: if you just want to tick things off
Streaks is a clean habit tracker for Apple devices. You set up to 24 tasks you want to do each day and build a streak of consecutive days. It can read some data from the Health app, syncs with iCloud, and lets you share tasks with other Streaks users.
- Good for: people who know their habits and want a simple, good-looking checklist.
- Not for: Android users, or anyone who wants guidance on what to do.
- Price: $5.99 once, no subscription.
If a broken streak tends to make you quit, read what to do when you break a streak before you start.
Habitica: if you like games
Habitica turns your habits and to-dos into a retro role-playing game. You create an avatar, and checking off real tasks earns gold, experience and items. There are parties and challenges with other players.
- Good for: people who are motivated by points, levels and playing with friends.
- Not for: anyone who finds games distracting or wants something calm.
- Price: free to use; an optional subscription is $4.99/month or $47.99/year.
Finch: if you want something gentle
Finch is a self-care app built around a virtual pet. You take care of your pet by taking care of yourself, with small self-care activities like mood check-ins, breathing exercises and habits. It’s very well loved: over 765,000 ratings averaging above 4.9 on the US App Store.
- Good for: people who want a soft, encouraging app and like a bit of cuteness.
- Not for: people who want something more grown-up or structured.
- Price: free, with an optional Finch Plus subscription (several prices are listed).
Routinery: if routines are the point
Routinery runs your routines with you. You break a routine into short steps, each with its own timer, and the app tells you what’s next.
- Good for: people who like Fabulous’s routines but want them more hands-on and step-by-step.
- Not for: people looking for content to read or listen to.
- Price: free to start; Premium is listed at about $36/year.
- Platforms: iPhone and iPad. We couldn’t confirm an Android version when we checked.
Headspace: if you want meditation
Headspace is a meditation and mindfulness app with guided meditations, sleep content and courses. Its App Store listing also mentions access to coaches and therapists, and an AI companion.
- Good for: anyone whose main goal is to meditate, sleep better or learn mindfulness.
- Not for: people who want routines or habits rather than meditation.
- Price: $12.99/month or $69.99/year.
Mindscape: if you want a short daily dose for your mind
This is our app, so read this section knowing that. Mindscape isn’t a routine planner or a meditation app. Each day you check in with how you feel, pick a focus (like Find Calm, Build Focus or Ignite Motivation), and get a short path: a story about that focus, an audio, one small challenge and a quick lesson with a quiz. Finish it and you keep your streak, and the orb for that focus grows over time.
- Good for: people who want a few minutes a day that leave them thinking clearer, without building a full routine.
- Not for: people who want a to-do list, meditation timers or sleep sounds. Mindscape doesn’t do those.
- Price: free to download; $59.99/year with a 7-day free trial, or $7.99/month with no trial.
When to stay with Fabulous
Fabulous is still a great choice if:
- you like being guided step by step through building a morning or evening routine,
- you use several of its parts together (coaching, journaling, workouts, meditation), or
- the community challenges keep you going.
In that case, switching might mean using three apps to replace one.
How to choose
Ask yourself one question: what do I actually want to do each day?
- Tick off habits → Streaks or Habitica.
- Be gently encouraged to look after myself → Finch.
- Run a routine step by step → Routinery or Fabulous.
- Meditate or sleep better → Headspace.
- Spend a few minutes on my mindset → Mindscape.
Whatever you choose, start small. One habit or one daily moment that you actually keep is worth more than a perfect setup you abandon. If you need ideas, here are 30 small daily challenges to start with.
How to cancel Fabulous
If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, you cancel there, not in the app. On iPhone: Settings, your name, Subscriptions. On Android: Google Play, your profile, Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel a subscription.
